San Antonio’s Alamodome Debuts Farm-to-Table Dining
San Antonio’s Alamodome, in conjunction with ARAMARK, is launching “Green Fork,” a farm-to-table dining concept that will meet the needs of delegates looking for healthy options. This new approach from ARAMARK is only available in San Antonio and will offer fresh, tossed-to-order salads with ingredients from local growers, such as Patty’s Herbs in Pearsall and Monterey Mushrooms in Madisonville. Implementing farm-to-table principles will provide fresh ingredients to Alamodome meeting-goers, while supporting San Antonio’s local economy.
“One of the most important goals for our citizens is to promote a culture focused on healthier food choices and lifestyles. We believe this can be accomplished even in a sports concessions environment where traditionally offerings have been very limited,” said Michael Sawaya, Convention, Sports and Entertainment Facilities Director. “Our introduction of ‘Green Fork’ at the Alamodome is consistent with our mission to focus on offering products that promote healthful eating, fresh ingredients, and great value.”
“Green Fork” offers classic salads such as Cobb and Caesar, an Asian Shanghai salad, a Mediterranean Cyprus salad and a signature San Antonio salad that captures the flavors of the region. Guests will also enjoy the “Freestyle” option to personalize their order with a variety of greens, 30 different toppings, 10 dressings and multiple protein choices, such as grilled tuna and San Antonio roasted chicken.
With a convenient location across from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and just a few blocks from the River Walk, the Alamodome is a convention favorite. Its 160,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space and column-free design is a big draw for numerous speaking engagements and exhibitions. Now, with “Green Fork,” the Alamodome has even more to offer. “Green Fork” will debut March 25, 2011 when the Alamodome hosts the 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament’s Southwest Regional.
