Visit San Antonio Announces New VP, Community Relations & Development

SAN ANTONIO (May 30, 2017) - Visit San Antonio, the official sales and marketing organization promoting the city as a leisure and meetings destination, announced today that Michael Woody will join as Vice President, Community Relations & Development.  

“Local stakeholders, the business community, our partners, local media, the military, our neighbors, elected officials at all levels – all these touchpoints are absolutely critical for any successful destination marketing organization. At Visit San Antonio, we have created the Community Relations & Development area as our commitment to this priority. We are excited to announce strong and experienced leadership for this function with Michael’s appointment. His deep knowledge of hospitality, proven successes, solid relationships and passion for our industry will be an excellent addition to this important part of our team,” said Casandra Matej, President & CEO, Visit San Antonio.

Woody and his team will work to identify and develop communications, membership and member-value strategies in search of optimizing all relationship angles with the tourism and hospitality industry in San Antonio. This will include maintaining local media relationships, pursuing positive advocacy of issues impacting the industry and proactively communicating the efforts of Visit San Antonio.

He brings more than 29 years of leadership experience in hospitality and tourism with an emphasis on operations, sales, marketing, communications and public relations. Most recently this has included executive management positions in hospitality development and consulting, and leadership roles as the Chief Operations Officer at Meeting Professionals International and the Assistant Executive Director at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau. He has also worked for American Airlines as the publisher of the in-flight collection of magazines, overseeing American Way, Celebrated Living and American Airlines Nexos as well as the custom publishing portfolio of magazines. In addition, his background includes management positions with national restaurant chains and global hotel brands.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from The University of North Texas where he currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Governors for the College.
