The San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau Focuses on Transformation at 2015 Annual Meeting

The San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau (SACVB), part of San Antonio’s $13.4 billion hospitality industry, is the destination sales, services and marketing arm for the City of San Antonio’s travel sector. Plans for 2016 will be unveiled during its annual meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 3:30 p.m. at the Henry B. González Convention Center (room 217).
Included will be highlights from 2015 and panelists and speakers.
Plans for 2016 are shaped by a variety of factors including research, industry trends and the competitive landscape. Key themes for 2016 include:
  • Maximizing opportunities for the Convention Center transformation;
  • Maximizing short-term business opportunities through sales strategies and tourism sales;
  • Activating the long-term strategic plan including air service development; and
  • Enhancing and broadening San Antonio’s awareness through the CVB’s mix-it-up marketing strategy.
Included in the meeting will be a high-level summary of 2015 that includes:
  • Booking meetings that represent 931,539 definite group room nights;
  • Achieving 6.5 million in online engagements to;
  • Achieving a service delivery ranking of a 3.9 (on a 4-point scale);
  • Earning $32.9 million in positive editorial exposure for the destination;
  • Securing the hit-show, “The Bachelorette,” which provided national media exposure;
  • Being selected to host IPW Marketplace in 2023;
  • Hosting its largest conference to date – 60th General Conference Session of the Seventh-day Adventist Church;
  • San Antonio’s Missions being declared a World Heritage Site.
Keynote speaker, Kevin Krone (Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Southwest Airlines) will delve into the history of Southwest’s 44 years of service in San Antonio and Southwest’s approach to air service and market development. Krone, who joined Southwest in 1992, oversees and provides direction to many facets within the organization including brand development, advertising, promotions, online strategy, Rapid Rewards loyalty program, distribution strategy, sales, customer insights and research, as well as product development and revenue generation. 
During the meeting, the 2015 Robert H.H. Hugman and Con Corazon Awards will be presented respectively to City Manager Sheryl Sculley and RK Group President & CEO Greg Kowalski.
