San Antonio Salutes Military with America’s Armed Forces River Parade

This Armed Forces Day, there’s even more for visitors to enjoy in San Antonio. America’s Armed Forces River Parade on May 18, 2013, from 6–8 p.m. will salute America’s servicemen and women with 25 professionally decorated floats along the beautiful River Walk. Participants will hail from all branches of military service, veterans of recent conflicts, military support groups and live entertainment from military groups and local artists.

The parade is free to view from the patios and balconies of River Walk Restaurants, or from the banks of the San Antonio River Walk. Reserved seats at the outdoor Arneson River Theatre are available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to participate by purchasing yellow ribbons with their deployed loved one’s name to adorn the trees lining the River Walk (ribbons can be purchased online at

San Antonio is the ideal place to celebrate Armed Forces Day. Often referred to as “Military City USA,” the city has a storied military legacy. It is home to over 36,000 active military personnel and some 113,000 military retirees and their families.
