San Antonio invites football fans to ‘Come Early, Stay Late’

San Antonio offers football fans a multitude of events and activities to fill their days and nights while in town for the 22nd annual Valero Alamo Bowl featuring Kansas State and UCLA on Jan. 2, 2015, at the Alamodome.

Plan a few extra days before and after the Valero Alamo Bowl to soak in the sights and sounds of the season:

  • San Antonio is known for being a festive city, and the holidays are certainly no exception. Thousands of magical lights along the famed River Walk lead the way to downtown hotels, restaurants, nightlife, shops, galleries and more - all steps away from the Alamodome.
  • Enjoy SeaWorld San Antonio’s amazing array of family-friendly seasonal shows, including “Shamu Christmas Miracles,” “A Dolphin Christmas” and “Elmo’s Christmas Wish” (through Jan. 4).
  • Experience thrilling rides, exciting entertainment, tasty treats and iceless skating at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Watch the "Majesty of Christmas" holiday spectacular, celebrate with the Looney Tunes and meet Santa at his Castle (through Jan. 4).
  • Delve into the history of Texas at the Alamo. The Alamo is one of the city’s five Spanish colonial missions, all nominated for inclusion on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Open to the public, free of charge.
  • For deep-rooted immersion into San Antonio’s rich culture, take a trolley to Market Square, the nation’s largest Mexican market. Peruse shops stocked with everything from pearls to piñatas and dine in family-owned Tex-Mex cafes.
  • San Antonio is also known as a phenomenal golf destination with more than 50 courses. Courses vary from world-class golf resorts to old quarries reincarnated into scenic challenges.
  • Ring in the New Year San Antonio-style at “Celebrate San Antonio,” one of the nation’s largest New Year’s celebrations. Take in spectacular fireworks, live music on multiple stages, food booths, family activities and more (Dec. 31).
