San Antonio CVB welcomes Visitor Experience Month with new visitor research tool and celebrations for travel and tourism employees

Richard Oliver |

May is Visitor Experience Month, a time to learn more about the travel industry’s contribution to business development, employment and overall quality of life. In honor of Visitor Experience Month, the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau (SACVB) is launching a new visitor research tool and kicking off a week of discounts and events to honor the city’s travel and tourism employees.

As San Antonio welcomes some 32.5 million visitors a year, including 26 million leisure visitors, tourism has grown to become one of the city’s largest economic generators.  It employs one in eight San Antonians and draws $13.4 billion new dollars into the local economy annually.  This is called The Travel Effect, and it is responsible for creating jobs, stimulating business development, funding City projects and enriching the culture and vibrancy of San Antonio.

“Funding generated from San Antonio’s travel and tourism industry enhances the lives of San Antonians,” said Casandra Matej, Executive Director of the SACVB. “It enables us to not only market and promote San Antonio to potential visitors, but also helps the City fund numerous arts and infrastructure projects. Funding from San Antonio’s Hotel Occupancy Tax has gone towards the extension of the River Walk, the renovation of the Tobin Center for Performing Arts and the recent transformation of the Henry B. González Convention Center.”

New Experience Dedicated® Destination program offers real-time data visitor experiences:

To enhance the visitor experience, the SACVB is debuting the Experience Dedicated® Destination program. Visitor attractions and hotels throughout the city can sign up to offer their guests mobile surveys that will provide real-time information on their visitor experience. It is an important new program to help San Antonio businesses see how they are performing in the eyes of their visitors, now and over time. Businesses can join this program by completing the “Count Us In” form at http://partners.visitsanantonio.com/english/EDD.
