Pearl Announces 2018 Fall and Holiday Programming

Monarch Butterfly & Pollinator Festival, Dia de los Muertos, Holiday Celebrations, and More!

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -  Pearl is excited to announce its fall and holiday programming for 2018, which includes the Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival, a pumpkin patch during Halloween weekend, Dia De Los Muertos, holiday celebrations, and much more. 

“Pearl is thrilled for another fall and holiday season in our neighborhood,” said Elizabeth Fauerso, Chief Marketing Officer for Pearl. “This year we plan on building on last year’s traditions with an even bigger Dia de los Muertos celebration, our weekly Holiday Night Market, a traditional Posada, and more. Pearl will be the perfect destination to shop for the holidays and enjoy the festivities.” 

The fall and holiday programming this year is as follows: 

Monarch Butterfly & Pollinator Festival: October 21

Join Pearl on Sunday, October 21 during peak Monarch butterfly migration week as we celebrate San Antonio's unique place in the storied Monarch butterfly migration - right in the middle of the flyway. Events are all free and open to the public. The schedule at Pearl includes:

  • 10 a.m. - People for Pollinators Parade | Pearl Park 
  • 10:30 a.m. - SAWS Pollinator Garden Workshops | Pearl Studio
  • 11 a.m. - Azul Barrientos Performance | Pearl Park
  • Noon - Monarch Butterfly Release | Pearl Park
  • 1 p.m. - Volcán Performance | Pearl Park
  • 1:30 p.m. - SAWS Pollinator Garden Workshops | Pearl Studio
  • 1:30 p.m. – Book Fairy story time | Parkito 
  • ALL DAY - Monarch butterfly tagging demos, face painting, kite building, educational activities, and more
  • Costumes encouraged—wear your wings!     

Pumpkin Patch at Farmers Market: October 27-28

Celebrate Halloween with an exclusive pumpkin patch at the Pearl Farmers Market held on Saturday, October 27 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and on Sunday, October 28 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Costumes encouraged! 

Dia de los Muertos: November 1-2

Pearl honors the rich traditional Mexican holiday that remembers family and friends who have passed away, with altars/ofrendas, music, a procession, art making, and more. Both days will feature traditional altars created by local and regional artists. The celebration will take place on November 1 and 2. This event is free and open to the public.The full schedule is as follows: 

November 1, 4 - 9 p.m. (all at Pearl Park): 

  • 4:45 - 5 p.m. – Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark introduces Dia de los Muertos in San Antonio

Holiday Night Market: Starting November 29 

Pearl is excited to host a holiday night market every Thursday starting November 29 through December 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. with Farmers Market vendors, additional craft vendors, live music, and holiday activites. Stock up on gifts from handmade soaps to artisan goat cheese and gourmet dog treats. Pearl will also light up the property Thanksgiving weekend to kick off the holiday season. The dates for the holiday night market include November 29, and December 6, 13, and 20. This event is free and open to the public.

Chanukah: December 3

Pearl welcomes back the 4th annual holiday tradition in partnership with Young & Jewish San Antonio (YJSA) with the Chanukah Menorah lighting celebration on December 3. The festivities at Pearl will bring the entire San Antonio community together from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Menorah at Pearl will be lit each evening of Chanukah. This event is free and open to the public. 

Posada: December 19 

Inspired by the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas, Pearl host its second annual traditional Posada on December 19 from 6:30 - 9 p.m.. Community members are invited to join the posada and become pilgrims traveling by candlelight. Las Posadasis a nine-day Christmas celebration in Mexico and Latin America, centered on the ritual re-enactment of Mary and Joseph's quest to find lodging in Bethlehem. The evening includes children’s crafts, piñatas, and custom Mexican treats of buñuelos, tamales, and Mexican hot chocolate. This event is free and open to the public.
