Jeffrey J. Quin, a boat captain and tour guide for Rio San Antonio Cruises, has been named the 2016 Certified Tourism Ambassador of the Year by the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau. Quin, who also works as a trainer and facilitator for the CTA program, was honored on Wednesday, May 18, during a CTA Networking Event at the San Antonio Zoo.

Quin, a native of Staten Island, N.Y., was nominated by fellow CTAs and was selected from a list of more than 20 finalists for the award – the largest lineup of nominees in the program’s history.

“Those who know him and work with him say he is a wonderful representative for this city in whatever he does,” said Casandra Matej, executive director of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau. “His ready smile and warm personality make him a perfect ambassador, whether manning a river barge or serving as a CTA trainer and facilitator.”

The 15,000-member Certified Tourism Ambassador program is a certification that aligns the destination’s people infrastructure, including businesses and front-line employees, with an overall mission to increase tourism. San Antonio’s CTA program has more than 1,000 representatives, one of the three largest contingents in the country.

During his professional career, Quin has shown remarkable diversity, with positions with Santikos Corporation, The Miss America Organization and Spurs Sports & Entertainment, among others. He has been a CTA for more than three years.

“I am extremely grateful to the individuals who took the time to nominate me for this award, and honored to be this year’s recipient,” Quin said. “I share my enthusiasm with previous honorees, but also with so many fellow CTAs I have met and trained in this program, who know exactly what it is like to love your work and being an integral part of the San Antonio hospitality field.”
