Unique dessert restaurant furthers Hemisfair’s reputation as a culinary destination

[San Antonio, TX] November 6, 2018 – On a path to becoming a cherished urban district, Hemisfair has curated an authentic and local culinary scene. The newest addition is Chocollazo, a unique dessert restaurant set to open in the historic Pereida House next to Paleteria San Antonio, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Local entrepreneurs Mary and Frank Collazo first opened Chocollazo as a gourmet food truck experience in 2013. Their tremendous success led them to open a storefront location on Broadway in 2016. Now they are bringing their chocolatier dreams to Hemisfair’s growing culinary arena.

“What’s really exciting about this next step is that we’re not only opening a new location within Hemisfair, but we’re also debuting a second concept for dessert lovers,” said Frank Collazo. “In one room of the historic Pereida house will be Chocollazo where chocolates, truffles, desserts and pastries will stock the shelves. There’s something for everyone with prices ranging from $1 to $100. In another room will be our new concept; Sugar Sugar; offering candy, soda, gifts and a cotton candy machine. It’s a place where children playing at Yanaguana Garden will remember for generations.”

“Welcoming Chocollazo and Sugar Sugar to Hemisfair rounds out a diverse array of culinary tenants that are unique to San Antonio,” said Hemisfair CEO, Andres Andujar. “Our alluring collection of food and beverage offerings is helping Hemisfair tell the story of San Antonio’s food and people to both locals and visitors. It adds tremendously to the sense of place that Hemisfair offers and will help to draw commerce into the urban core.”

The charm of Hemisfair’s culinary landscape is due in part to the historic settings in which food and beverage options reside. Pereida House was built in 1883. Its ornate trim work, large windows and airy porch echoes San Antonio’s German-built past.

Other tenants that are upping Hemisfair’s culinary game:

CommonWealth Coffeehouse and Bakery is intensely dedicated to serving the best cup of coffee and French pastries. Their passion centers on perfection—from quality and presentation to service. CommonWealth is a great place to start the day at Hemisfair, grab lunch with a friend, or refuel after playing in Yanaguana Garden.

Con Safos Cocina y Cantina is a family friendly food truck and bar that fosters the spirit of San Antonio through art, music and food. Set in Yanaguana Garden, Con Safos is nestled next to the splash pad and just around the corner from the playground. Hemisfair allows for enjoying a beer or wine in the cozy, historic Espinoza building as well as around the park. On any given night, patrons can find a variety of entertainment in the park or a live music performance on their deck.

Dough Pizzeria Napoletana fills Hemisfair with the aromas of local, farm-fresh ingredients. At the heart of their Hemisfair pizzeria is true Neapolitan techniques and a wood-burning oven that cooks pizzas to perfection in 90 seconds at 800 degrees. Their mantra is balance, simplicity and top-quality ingredients.

Paleteria San Antonio makes beautiful ice pops with local style. They believe in using real ingredients and responsible practices to make wholesome treats for all ages. During cooler months, patrons can enjoy smores, fruit cups, Mexican hot chocolate and other sweets.
