Art and Agave a new twist to popular cornerstone events

SAN ANTONIO (July 1, 2019) – Raise your glasses and get ready to say “Cheers to Twenty Years” during the 20th annual Culinaria Wine + Food Festival, September 26-29,  as organizers serve up some of the greatest hits from the last two decades while also preparing exciting twists on some past favorites.

“Cheers to Twenty Years” is the slogan for this year’s Culinaria Festival, South Texas’ premier celebration of food, wine, spirits and more. After being held in the spring for years, Culinaria Festival is returning to its roots by moving back to September, not far from the date when the first Culinaria launched nearly two decades ago.

For the fourth consecutive year, La Cantera Resort & Spa will host the Culinaria Festival. More than 10,000 people are expected to take part in everything from Bubbles, a celebration of champagne, sparkling wine and cocktails at Topaz, the resort’s adult pool, that also boasts the most breathtaking sunsets in San Antonio, to the Festival’s most popular smoky finale of Burgers, BBQ and Beer.

The 20th Culinaria Festival will introduce a twist on the ever-festive Best of Mexico event with Arte Agave – an art and tequila extravaganza (Friday, Sept. 27). Enjoy tequila and mezcal infused with Mexican art, with the musical backdrop provided by Selena tribute band Bidi Bidi Banda.

After a decade-long absence from Culinaria Festival, organizers are bringing back the Masquerade component of the Grand Tasting (Saturday, Sept. 28). Don your finest masks and come prepared to be dazzled by mysteries and surprises galore.

Also returning to Culinaria Festival after a five-year hiatus is the Hole in Wine Golf Tournament, teeing off on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the La Cantera Resort Course.

“Culinaria Festival is a uniquely San Antonio experience that promotes personal relaxation, enjoyment and enrichment,” says Culinaria President and CEO Suzanne Taranto-Etheredge.

“There is something to be said about the fine art of Southern hospitality and really curating events that slow people down,” Taranto-Etheredge added. “We’ve worked hard to remind festival-goers that there’s a lot of grace in pairing great food with great wine, great cocktails and great spirits.”

“Life is about exploring. The experiential part of the Culinaria Festival is what makes it different,” she said. “You come to learn more about how to discern the difference between great wines, to shake your own cocktail, and to do some proper tastings so you discover what you like, what feels comfortable and what is surprising.”

“La Cantera Resort is proud to host Culinaria’s annual celebration of wine and food. We applaud its ongoing commitment to promoting San Antonio as a major culinary destination, highlighting San Antonio’s unique confluence of flavors and culture,” says Michelle Robertson, director of marketing and PR for La Cantera Resort & Spa.

News about the lineup of talented chefs participating in Culinaria Festival, and more surprises, will be coming soon.

Poised at the pinnacle of 550-acres, La Cantera Resort offers a pristine oasis with some of the most stunning views of the Texas Hill Country. The luxury property is an ideal setting to showcase the Alamo City's culinary artistry through an array of events designed to attract both casual diners and enlightened palates.  To book your stay for Culinaria Festival week, visit culinariasa.org/accommodations.  You can learn more about all of the events at culinariasa.org/festival.
